I Messed Up

Two days ago, I posted an updated candidates page to encourage our volunteers, pledges and supporters to work with the candidates that our initial research indicated we would likely endorse. We know that political campaigns have far more resources to run an effective ground game that gets more votes.

Unfortunately, I posted the wrong person's photo for Julie Lutete, our likely candidate for Etobicoke North, and for this, I am very sorry.

The error came about because I had selected an image that Google image search associated with Julie Lutete's LinkedIn page. While I had thought it looked more like a picture of Mitzie Hunter, I didn't take the time to investigate and verify, and I absolutely should have.

I learned of this error from one of our Unity Pledge signers, who noticed and emailed me this morning, after I'd sent out an email blast to all our pledge signers and volunteers. I'd like to publicly thank them for pointing it out, as they are correct this is not acceptable.

Since then, I have changed the image to one that is definitely Julie, sent feedback to Google for associating the wrong person's photo with her LinkedIn profile, and sent Julie a personal apology. I have also offered to replace her photo with one of her choosing, if she wants.

Normally, when I write from the Not One Seat account, I use the pronoun 'we' to indicate the group as a collective whole. In this case, I'm using 'I', because the error was entirely mine.
